What is the Better Together Challenge about?Better Together Challenge is a 3-day global gathering that brings together innovators and changemakers from a myriad of backgrounds - peace building, social innovation, environment, education, arts & culture, science & technology, humanitarian work, and more - for an inspiring exchange of ideas and celebration of being #BetterTogether. The highlight program is the Challenge contest, which is an open and live stage where anyone can share their creative solutions for major social issues of our time, and stand to win a grant towards realizing their aspirations for a better world.

When is the Better Together Challenge 2019 taking place?The Better Together Challenge presentation stage will be on October 4, 2019 from 9am to 6pm. The Challenge Awards Ceremony will be held the next day on October 5 at 5pm.

Where is the Better Together Challenge 2019 taking place? How can I get to the venue?The venue ‘PyeongChang Medal Plaza’ is located in the small mountain town of Daegwallyeong in PyeongChang, 126 km from Seoul (about 2 hours’ drive). Various public transportations are available, and the easiest one being by train. Take the KTX(Express Train) from Incheon Int’l Airport to Jinbu Station (98 min.) Take an intercity bus from Dong Seoul Terminal to Hoenggye Terminal (150 min.) Take an intercity bus from Seoul Nambu Terminal to Hoenggye Terminal (150 min.) There will be free shuttles for the participants from Jinbu Station to the venue and the hotel. It is a walking distance from Heonggye Terminal to the venue and the hotel.

Why apply to the Better Together Challenge?Challengers selected through an application review will be invited to join and feature their work and idea at the Better Together Challenge from 3-5 October 2019, in PyeongChang, Korea. Winners will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony held on the evening of 5th. Winners will receive up to US $5,000 project support grant. Their work will also be featured throughout the year to raise their visibility and share their stories and inspiring work with the Better Together community around the world.

Am I eligible to apply?Everyone is encouraged to apply. There are No age restrictions. There are No restrictions on the sectors or fields of work/project/expertise. Please check the following eligibility criteria. I have my own project/activity/work to solve social problems and make changes and make the world a better place for all I am able to travel to PyeongChang, Korea. I am open to new ideas and different opinions. I am eager to meet, mingle and make friends with fellow practitioners from different fields and parts of the world.

What will my application be judged on?Each submission will be evaluated according to whether the actions are deemed to be "innovative, sustainable, and impactful."

Who will be evaluating my applications?All submissions will be reviewed by the Challenge team together with the application review committee, which will be composed of representatives from various social sectors, innovative humanitarian projects and incubators.

When do I need to enter by?The window for application submissions will run until 9 August 2019.

How will I know if I have made it to the final stage?Finalists will be announced by 15 August 2019 and notified via email by the Challenge team and contacted directly to plan their participation at the Festival.

How many challengers will be selected for the live Challenge stage?Up to 40 challengers among the applicants will be selected and featured on the Global stage.

How long will each Challenger pitch for?Each challenger will be allocated 5 minutes to present on chosen topic. Challengers are recommended to use visual materials(image slides, still images, videos) for effective communication to the audience. Although other audio visual means or performance elements are allowed, it needs to be discussed in advance to confirm whether technical support will be available.

How will my presentation be judged?Presentation by each challenger will be voted and the winners for each topic category will be determined by voting scores. There will be two judging groups Audience Voters: a large group of audience consisting of fellow practitioners and mindful citizens Special Jury Panel: a selected group of expert practitioners and thought leaders Contestants are also given voting rights. A contestant can vote for other challengers but not for oneself. Both judging groups will attentively listen and vote after each presentation. (“Score voting”, range of 1-10 point) The average score by (the Audience voters + Contestants) and that of the (Special Jury Panel) will be combined in a 1:1 ratio. The combined score will be the final score of a contestant.
